Chances are you've heard of these wedding killers. Or worse, witnessed these slashers live at a family member or friend's wedding.
The good news is, virtually every wedding can eliminate their threat with these JMAN Productions tips & callouts.
Read on to understand the threat, so you can hire against it.
The Venue | Killer #1
Air conditioning or lack thereof, City/Fire Ordinances Prohibiting Certain Decoration, Power Locations/Reliability, Rain-out Plan B, Shaded Ceremony, Bathroom Bottleneck, Staff Availability During Your Wedding
Air Conditioning or Lack Thereof.
Does your venue have AC? Does your venue have an AC contractor on speedial if the AC goes out? Are there at least fans to circulate air inside a barn?
Consider the implication of wearing layers of clothing during the Idaho summer, and confirm your venue provides the guest eperience you need.
City/Fire Ordinances Prohibiting Decoration
Is your venue historic, protected, or fragile?
Will your decorators run into any limitations running anything more serious than beer garden/Christmas lights?
Power Locations/Reliability
How old is the venue? How modern is it?
Idaho has plenty of barns, ranches, vineyards, plenty of properties zoning as Ag for tax purposes, but running scenic wedding venues on the side, or as their unofficial main business. I have NEVER tripped a circuit breaker in a modern venue, e.g. hotel ballroom, or even my house, but I have tripped a couple "family electrician" venue circuits. Is your venue up to code?
Rain-out Plan B
What happens if it rains or is too windy?
What's your venue's Plan B for weather?
Shaded Ceremony
Is your ceremony outdoors? Does it have shade? How about outdoor power? Is it available? Is it in a spot which you'll see cords running to & fro?
Has your venue addressed these concerns?
Bathroom Bottleneck
Self explanatory.
Many venues say they support hundreds of guests! But many only have one bathroom. Some even have zero. This means you have to rent your own portable luxury restrooms. In Idaho, these can range from $1,000 to $3,500+ (sometimes costing more than your DJ).
Venue-Staff Availability During Your Wedding
Is venue staff available during your wedding? What if a circuit trips before dinner or during the reception? What if water or ice-making or the AC isn't working?
I bring slient portable power, and have had to use it when venue circuits tripped and no venue staff could be found. Not all DJs/wedding vendors are as well equipped though, and some issues only the venue can truly solve, e.g. A/C, water, ice, plumbing, etc.
